BIOL 116 — Introduction to Biotechnology

Credits: 3 Typically Offered: FALLSPR This course introduces fundamental concepts of modern biotechnology and includes emphasis on topics of DNA structure and function, gene expression, and genetic manipulation. The course also explores real-world applications of biotechnology in medicine, agriculture, environmental science, and industry, as well as ethical and societal considerations. Students will gain practical experience through laboratory exercises such as DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and PCR.
