IART275 — Painting Restoration
This course covers all types of painting restoration beginning with the basic techniques of the restoratin of canvas. The direct contact with damaged works of art and the examples given of teh results of a professional restoration stimulate students to learn and dedicate their attention to the process and secrets of this difficult art. This course is meant to give the students a concept of restoration that allows them to observe the differences between philolgoy of a painting and the chromatic harmony regarding the techniques of the past. It covers scale system, tones, reconstruction of missing parts, relining and reweaving, problems of humidity and temperature changes, wrinkle problems, and bisturi techniques. Students restore real art works.
