This unit is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of the structure and the growth of micro-organisms and their role in communicable diseases. On successful completion of this unit students should be able to: identify and conmpare the ultrastructure of bacteria, fungi and protozoa analyse the concepts of microbial gorwth; apply the techniques used in the measurement and control of microbial growth; interpret the relationship between man and micro-organism in a disease context.
