This subject looks at the brief history that has impacted so greatly upon the functional role of advertising in the emerging marketing communications evnironment of the 21st century. Students will be exposed to a number of theoretical perspectives that have emerged as potentially impacting upon traditional and accepted approaches to advertising. Students will be exposed to the emerging world of 'the brand', highlightin the shift towards the emphasis on brand image, and how this is being increaseingly influenced by attempts to achieve effective reach to identified market segments by way of non- conventional media.
