This course introduces students to history on a global scale. It examines the ways in which the hostory of Britain and Europe has intersected with that of Asia Africa, the middle east andother parts of the world over a large part of the last three hundred years or so. The module will will use a range of case studies to introduce students to the rich and caried ways in which 'East meets West'. It will examine some of the ways in which encounters between different civilisations and cultures influenced politics, society, religion and the arts in various parts of the world between about 1700 to 1914.
