4 parts Roman Gdns;medieval gdns; early renaiss grdn; mannerist grdn. Stylistic characters & main features of ea period will be considered & compared w/ those of prev & following period. Villas & grdns will be analysed first from the general layout aspect(symmetry-perspective-focal p and then in ea single elemnt & feature, typical of the period(statuary, ftns, pergolas colmn etc.)Aim of course is to intro the student to topological develop of the italian garden from its origins to end of 17th c.
