An introduction to the Spanish literature from the 12th century to the 18th century. Topics include Arts of Popular and Learned Epics, Humanism, the Picaresque Novel, Cervantes and his times, theatre in the 17th century, and the Enlightenment in Spain. Readings include Mio Cid, El conde Lucano Celestina, Don Quijote, Fuenteovejuna, and El si de las ninas.
