IPOL264 — Modern Political Thought

3 credits · 3 hours

This course aims to provide an introduction to modern political thought by considering some of the key thinkers and writers who have shaped and influenced it. It will do so by looking at such thinkers as Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Mills and Marx, and by attempting to show the significance and importance of their respective ideas fo contemporary 'liberal democratic' politics. In addition it will include an assessment of the role played by democratic theory within both the premises of modern thought and the thinkers discussed.
