ISOC205 — Racialized Britain

3 credits · 3 hours

The political crisis raised by the immigration control debates in the 1960s appear to have been rooted solely in the fact of post-war black Commonwealth immigration. Such a view-still held by many white British people- is potentially misleading. There are a number of ideological and political strands current in British society that can be traced back to transatlantic slavery and beyond. THis module explores the problem of turning black migrants and their descendants into victims of racism and shows how, historically, theirs has been a positive response of difficult circumstances.
