The aim of the course is to introduce students to the complex nature of Irish society. It examines social change and continutiy in modern Ireland. The course concentrates on how economic developmen impacts on certain social institutions in Irish society and on the structure of Irish culture in general. By the end of the course, you should have a basic understanding of sociological theories associated with development of societies and you should be able to apply those theories to the contemporary Irish situation.
