CHM142 — General, Organic, and Biochemistry II
CHM 142 - General, Organic, and Biochemistry II CHM 142 - General, Organic, and Biochemistry II CHM 142 is a continuation of CHM 141 General, Organic, and Biochemistry I. It is the second course of a two semester sequence in general, organic, and biochemistry. This course will offer an overview of organic and biological chemistry primarily intended for health science students but appropriate for others looking for an introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry topics. Applications include consumer products, living systems, food and metabolism. Identify basic chemical and physical properties of organic compounds, including the prediction of the physical states and boiling point trends of simple organic compounds and the effects of simple organic compounds on living things. Determine the formulas and names of simple organic compounds and complete basic organic chemical equations. Identify and differentiate stereoisomers and recognize their applications in biochemistry. Interpret the structures and describe the basic chemistry of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and enzymes, nucleic acids, hormones, and vitamins.
