Emphasis on the performance of collection and processing of specimens, clinical significance, and interpretation of cultural, microscopic and biochemical characteristics, diagnostic tests, and susceptibility tests. Requires hands-on experience in affiliated laboratories. Describe the specimen collection, transport, processing and culture of microbial specimens. Interpret microbiological stains, cultures, and classical testing methods. Identify microorganisms by selecting appropriate testing methods and correlating with clinical significance. Analyze and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility testing and quality control.
