Starting with Poe, Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), and other classics in the field, the course traces the development of the detective story from its puzzle-solving beginnings to the modern psychological novel of crime and detection. This course is designated as a writing emphasis course (WE). Recognize and analyze nuance and complexity of meaning through critical reflections on texts. Use a multi-stage writing process to write effectively using tools and/or forms appropriate to the discipline.
