LIT 277 - Introduction to Irish Literature (WE) LIT 277 - Introduction to Irish Literature (WE) A survey of Irish literature in several genres-novels short stories, poetry, drama, essays, and criticism from the nineteenth century to the present. Students will read and critically analyze the work of major figures, such as Maria Edgeworth, W.B. Yeats, James Joyce, and Seamus Heaney, and of figures who are less well-known. Close attention will be paid to the ways in which Irish literary works respond to the pressures of Irish history and culture. A research paper is required. This course is designated as a writing emphasis course (WE). Recognize and analyze nuance and complexity of meaning through critical reflections on texts. Use a multi-stage writing process to write effectively using tools and/or forms appropriate to the discipline.
