LIT 291 - Folklore and Fantasy (WE) LIT 291 - Folklore and Fantasy (WE) This course will examine the roots and flowering of the modern genre of fantasy. Beginning with myth such as that found in Genesis and The Odyssey and fairytales such as “Beauty and the Beast,” proceeding through the great heroic tale tradition of Beowulf and King Arthur, we will arrive at the great fantasy works of the last hundred years. We will use literary critical analysis to form a definition of fantasy that we can use as a touchstone with which to examine hybrids such as the Star Wars Epic and works yet to come. This course is designated as a writing emphasis course (WE). Recognize and analyze nuance and complexity of meaning through critical reflections on texts. Use a multi-stage writing process to write effectively using tools and/or forms appropriate tot he discipline.
