PED 161 - Sport and Society PED 161 - Sport and Society This course is an introduction to the field of sport sociology. Consequently, the first objective is to provide students with the knowledge of important concepts, methods, and theoretical approaches that define this sub-discipline. The second objective is to familiarize the students with sociological perspective to studying sport as a socio-cultural phenomenon, and to examine the often-controversial relationships between gender, race, class, and sexuality and the institution of sport. The third objective is to develop critical thinking through analyzing the social, political, cultural and historical context of sport in the United States and other societies. Hours 3
