ECE-119 — Field Experience in ECE

Students participate in a seminar, and engage in a minimum of 150 hours (12 per week) in an early childhood education infant, toddler or preschool classroom as a practicum student, with a supervising mentor teacher. Supervised field work provides an opportunity to practice developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) intentionally with an emphasis on building healthy and positive relationships, inclusive and safe environments, positive guidance strategies, effective teaching strategies, and supporting play-based learning. Assignments include completion of an online training series which is required by MA DEEC to enter the field. Class Meets 1 hr lec; 150 hrs prac (12hrs/week) Ed. Course No Mass Transfer Course No Notes Students receive permission from the Education department chair to register and assistance/approval for their field placement. Students must also clear a CORI report before enrolling in the practicum. This field experience course meets the practicum requirement for the MA DEEC “Foundational Certificate”.
