Course projects will expand upon concepts surrounding methods of building using coil, slab, and the pottery wheel. This is a hands-on studio course with emphasis on self-direction as well as advanced techniques for forming and finishing ceramics. (Spring) Three hours lecture each week. Two hours laboratory each week. Three Credits. Three Billable Hours. Demonstrate the impact of design elements and principles in both composition and critique of clay sculpture and pottery. Demonstrate the use of ceramic media to express the emotional implications of the subject creatively. Demonstrate an ability to interpret and adhere to assignment goals and specifications by maintaining an increasingly original and mature portfolio in real and electronic formats. Demonstrate sophisticated clay construction methods, surface treatments, and glazing techniques. Demonstrate appreciation for historical and cultural influences in art, relative to ceramics and clay sculpture, through research and written response.
