The course will examine the Roman military conquests of the Italian peninsula and the Mediterranean rim, the personalities of Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus, the development of the political organization during the Roman Republic and Empire, and the fabric of Roman society and its institutions, and the events leading to the fall of Rome.
