ENGL 1275 — - Introduction to Latin American Literature

This course is a survey of U.S. focused Latin American (also called Latine) literature that introduces students to a historically grounded understanding of the major trends in this wide-ranging literary tradition. By analyzing works from genres, such as poetry, fiction, memoirs, films, and performance, this course will highlight the diversity of Latin American literature. Along with exploring contemporary themes and issues, the course will also examine how race, class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality are represented and produced in Latin American literature and other cultural expressions.
