HEAL 1055 — - Focus on Nursing Pharmacology

The student nurse is in a unique position regarding drug therapy. Nursing responsibilities include administration of drugs, assessing drug side effects and adverse reactions, interventions to make the drug regimen more tolerable, providing patient teaching and monitoring the patient’s care plan to prevent medication errors. This presents pharmacology as an understandable and learnable subject through the utilization of the nursing process. The course involves the study of drug classes, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pathophysiological changes related to drug classes, and application of nursing fundamentals. Lecture: 3 hours Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1010 and BIOL 1020
