ECE 203 — Teaching Mathematics to Young Children

(3 Lecture 0 Lab 0 Shop) 3 Hrs./Wk. (3 Hrs. Lecture) *1 5 wks. This course introduces ECE students to the extensiveness of math experiences in programs for young children. Students will learn to create a developmentally appropriate math curriculum for preschool and primary school age children. This course will introduce the students to the guidelines and standards of mathematics for young children though NAEYC, NCTM, and the State of Maine Learning Guidelines. Students will work with young children in a school or childcare setting to observe and implement lesson plans. 100 math course and ECE 100 or EDU 10 1 or a current early childhood education teacher.
