JUS 225 — Race and Ethnicity Issues in Law Enforcement

May be taken as a Social Science Elective The course examines the impact of cultural diversity on law enforcement to include a discussion of cultural awareness, bias, prejudice, training, recruitment and cross cultural communication. Police challenges in engaging with specific racial/ethnic groups are examined, to include Asian/Pacific Americans, African- Americans, Latino/Hispanic Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans and others. Homeland security concerns, racial profiling and hate crimes are also addressed.
