SPED 2250 - Foundations of Special Education SPED 2250 - Foundations of Special Education 3 credit hour(s) Examines the historical and legal basis for special education services for students with disabilities. Course competencies are built upon national, state, and professional standards and include understandings of 1) the exceptionality categories included in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) and NM State Law; 2) the responsibilities of educators and school systems to students with disabilities, including the role of professional ethics; and 3) the importance of and strategies for collaborating with families and other professionals.
