MEDA 1800 — Phlebotomy Principles in Practice
This course introduces the student to laboratory tests and procedures routinely performed in ambulatory care. Topics include the fundamental principles of medical lab practice, disposal of biohazardous materials, specimen collection, handling samples, diagnostic testing, documentation, quality assurance, and patient safety measures. Also included is basic life-support training. Completion of the required number of unaided venipuncture and capillary collections qualifies the student to take the phlebotomy technician certification examination administered by the National Center for Competency Testing.
