MENHLTH 229 — Practicum In Addictions Treatment

6 credits · 6 hours

This supervised practicum provides a 300-hour field experience in a licensed mental health or substance use disorder setting. Students apply the disease concept of addiction, the bio-psycho-social model, and the IC&RC 12 Core Functions through direct client care, clinical documentation, case management, and ethical practice. Learners complete DSM-5-TR–aligned assessments, apply ASAM 4th Edition placement criteria, and produce Illinois Rule 2060–compliant records. A weekly two-hour seminar supports applied learning, supervision, digital literacy, ethical reasoning, and professional self-reflection. This capstone experience builds workforce readiness and prepares students for progression toward CADC certification.
