NURSING 103 — Introduction to Medical-Surgical (LPN-Bridge Option)
This course is designed for licensed practical nurses seeking to transition into registered nursing practice. It emphasizes the development of critical thinking, advanced nursing skills, and knowledge necessary for providing safe and effective patient care at the RN level. The content includes intermediate medical-surgical nursing concepts, leadership, and management principles, with an overview of complex patient scenarios. The NCLEX core competencies, and the Joint’s Commission National Patient Safety Goals are highlighted throughout course. Theoretical concepts and clinical nursing skills contained in this course are consistent with the skills standards developed from the State of Illinois as stated in the Nurse Practice Act, IL1300.340, (225 ILCS 65/), and the Nurse Practice Act Approval of Programs sub section F Curriculum and instruction. Writing assignments as appropriate to the discipline are a part of this course. This course builds upon prior practical nursing education and prepares students for successful progression into the ADN program.
