NURSING 208 — Maternal-Newborn Nursing
This course focuses on the childbearing family and the integrative, family-centered approach to the care of mothers and newborns is promoted. Emphasis is placed on normal and high-risk pregnancies, normal growth and development, family dynamics and the promotion of healthy behaviors in the patients. The community as a site for care and support services is addressed. More complex and health assessment and nursing skills continue to be presented and students practice and demonstrate these skills in the laboratory and clinical settings. Clinical experiences provide the student with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and implement safe, quality, evidence-based patient care in selected settings. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
