Multicultural Law Enforcement – 3 Credits This course provides an understanding of our justice system in America as it pertains to police and community relations. An increasing number of leaders in law enforcement agen - cies and their employees have accepted the premise that greater cross-cultural competency and improved cross- racial/ethnic relations must be a key objective of all manage- ment and professional development. Demographic changes have had a tremendous impact not only on the types of crimes committed, but also on the composition of the law enforcement workforce and the people with whom offi - cers make contact. To be effective, police executives must understand and be responsive to the diversity in their work forces and in their changing communities. Professionalism today includes the need for greater consideration across cultures and improved communication with members of diverse groups. This course will prepare the student to be familiar with those considerations and the diversity in which law enforcement professionals' work. Each week we will focus on different chapters, writing situations, issues, or problems encountered in the justice system through our writing assignments.
