HREC 134 — Backcountry Travel

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in a multi-day backcountry excursion. Skills like trip planning, pack fit and packing, hiking skills, Wilderness navigation, campsite selection, cooking, bear protocols, and sleeping warm will be practiced. The course also covers the principles and practices of minimal impact outdoor techniques through the Leave No Trace Principles. The course includes a backpacking excursion. This course may taken twice for credit (total of 6 hours in a degree). Fee Required.
