MUSI 270 — introduction to Conducting

2 credits · 2 hours

This course is a study of practical music conducting including precise beat patterns for simple, compound and irregular meters, preparatory beats, cueing, cut-offs, articulations and other related subjects. The objective of the course is to enable the student to effectively lead a choral or instrumental musical ensemble. While this course may be taken by music majors, it is not intended to fulfill the upper division conducting requirement that music majors need to complete at most four year schools. A thorough understanding of rhythm and rhythmic notation is required.
