NURR 219 — Mental Health & Behavioral Nursing

Explores holistic, person-centered care for individuals across the lifespan experiencing mental health and behavioral disorders. Emphasis is placed on therapeutic communication, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and the development of therapeutic nurse-client relationships. Students examine common psychiatric conditions, evidence-based interventions, and the nurse’s role in promoting safety, advocacy, and recovery. The course fosters cultural humility, stigma reduction, and interprofessional collaboration to support mental wellness in diverse populations and care settings.

Prerequisites: ENGL 101, SOCY 101, NURR 117
