LAWE 200 — Law Enforcement II (12 Credits, Spring)
This course is designed to prepare students for a career in law enforcement. It will be delivered in an on-campus patrol academy format and will be the second of two courses that will allow the successful student an opportunity to challenge the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) test for patrol and detention. Both the course and program are approved by POST, which eliminates the need for the graduate to attend the basic police academy before taking the certification exam. All course topics will be taught by certified POST academy instructors. Areas of study include but are not limited to maintaining public order; protecting life and property by enforcing local, tribal, State, or Federal laws and ordinances; detention duties and responsibilities; jail law and standards; collision investigation and traffic law; and traffic stops and speed measurement. Particular emphasis will be placed on officer survival in a detention setting and fitness. PREREQ: Admission into the Law Enforcement program. (8 lecture hours, 12 lab hours, 12 credits)
