MEA 100 — Intro to Medical Assisting
This introductory course provides an in-depth overview of the essential knowledge and skills required for a career in medical assisting. Students will learn about the key duties and responsibilities of a medical assistant, exploring their role within the healthcare team and the importance of professionalism in a medical setting. Topics covered include the healthcare team; professionalism and interpersonal communication; legal and ethical issues; infection control and safety protocols; patient reception and office management; examination and treatment areas; patient interviewing; assisting with a general physical examination; orientation to the lab; diagnostic imaging; physical therapy and rehabilitation basics; nutrition and health promotion; and practice management.
