MA 127 - Phlebotomy and ECG Technician MA 127 - Phlebotomy and ECG Technician This combination lecture/laboratory course introduces students to the roles of the phlebotomist and the electrocardiography (ECG) technician in a simulated clinical environment using simulation arms to practice basic venipuncture and the phlebotomy specimen collection process. Students will also learn the proper performance of electrocardiography (ECG) testing by placing electrodes on a life-like mannequin and using a cardiac rhythm simulator connected to an electrocardiograph to mimic various dysrhythmias and normal ECG tracings. During this 15-week course, learners will also review the fundamentals of safety and preparedness, proper disposal of biohazard material and medical sharps waste, general fire safety, emergency eyewash, and safety shower procedures, as well as the proper performance of point-of-care testing, micro-collection techniques, CLIA-waived tests, quality assurance, and liability risk management according to established standards. Students who successfully fulfill the requirements of both MA 127 and MA 129 will be eligible to sit for the NRCPT Phlebotomy Technician and NRC-EKG Technician Certification Exams sponsored by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).
