HST 205 — Islam & The Black Experience
This course examines the history of Islam as both a community of faith for Muslims and as a horizon of Black consciousness via a broad African-diasporic lens. Starting with the earliest presence of Muslims in Africa around the 7th century CE, students will explore the expansion of the religion across the continent and beyond as it pertains to the aforementioned relationship between Islam and the global Black community. Emphasis will be placed upon the interconnection of race, religion, and culture.
