The maintenance of information is the primary function of the office. Paper and paperless records alike require organized, safe storage so that the retrieval of information is swift and accurate. Every important task performed in the office has something to do with information. We create information, distribute it; receive, store and retrieve it; and eventually, we transfer or dispose of it. Office workers must have the ability to organize information in a meaningful way for future reference because the office is the information, or memory center of the organization.
