CCJS 225 — Problem Solving in the Public Sector

Explores methods and concepts essential to defining and addressing public problems in the modern era. Introduces human-centered design frameworks as a lens for identifying, analyzing, and proposing solutions to actual problems facing public safety and other public sector entities. Surveys additional factors surrounding these solutions, such as quality control, customer service, public-private partnerships, and evaluation. Students will practice balancing data-driven analyses with the experiences, feedback, and resources of affected communities to tackle the complex, "wicked" problems involved in effective public service.
