MUSC 109 — American Popular Music
(formerly MU 109) Surveys the development of American popular music in the 20th and 21st centuries, including the origins of both pop/rock styles, significant artists, cross-pollination with other genres, and impact on American culture. Selected pieces are examined in detail through directed listening. Topical writing assignments are required. Music reading skills unnecessary.
