ECG100 — Intro Healthcare Medical Legal
This course is designed to offer the student a foundation in allied health career skills. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the healthcare delivery system, health occupations, basic infection control procedures, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, and the general laws and ethical responsibilities of healthcare workers. Students will learn to handle emergency situations, practice safety and security procedures, build interpersonal communication skills as well as define the roles and responsibilities of an electrocardiogram (ECG) technician. Students will learn medical terminology used in healthcare, with special care populations and in special services. Body systems approach to terms related to structures, functions, diseases, procedures and diagnostic tests. Building and analyzing terms using word parts. Medical abbreviations and symbols and term spelling. Prerequisites: Successful completion of RDG100 or higher or appropriate reading placement into CRE101.
