EMET 595 - Extractive Metallurgy Practicum EMET 595 - Extractive Metallurgy Practicum 1 credit This course will test student’s knowledge gained from the three courses within the Extractive Metallurgy Certificate program - Pyrometallurgy and Thermal Processing (EMET 502), Hydrometallurgy and Aqueous Processing (EMET 501), and Physical Chemistry of Iron and Steelmaking (EMET 520). Multifaceted experiments covering pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy are covered during the practicum. Examples of potential experiments include calcination, roasting, smelting, leaching, resin adsorption, and electrowinning. Safety is emphasized and training on all equipment is mandatory. Upon successful completion of the practicum students will have gained hands-on experience with extractive metallurgical unit operations while applying necessary kinetic and thermodynamic concepts.
