PHSX 423 - Electricity & Magnetism I PHSX 423 - Electricity & Magnetism I 3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.) Considers the calculus of vectors and fields; basic laws of electrostatics and magnetostatics; boundary value problems; derivation of capacitance and inductance; non-time varying Maxwell’s equations; relationship between force, charge and motion in electric and magnetic fields. Extension to time varying electric and magnetic field, time varying Maxwell’s equations, derivations of the wave equation for time harmonic fields, the plane wave solution of the wave equation, interaction of plane electromagnetic waves to dielectric boundaries, perfect conducting boundaries, and lossy media boundaries. Course generally 1st semester.
