This class examines the events leading up to, during, and after the May 18, 1980 cataclysmic eruption as well as the 2004-2008 eruptions from this active and dangerous volcano. You will learn about what explosive eruptions look like by studying the deposit and materials left behind and discuss the impact of these eruptions on our state. The class includes a field trip and classroom instruction before the trip. Course Note A field class that requires navigating steep and uneven terrain and traversing distances of about 2 miles of dusty and rocky environments.
