HS 35 - High School English 3 HS 35 - High School English 3 5 Credits High School English 3 develops skills to evaluate and analyze literature in terms of cultural, social, political, and historical contexts. English 3 builds on students’ prior knowledge of language arts skills, with a focus on critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication skills. Students read various styles of text and composition including literature, informational text, and media, in an effort to improve comprehension and analysis skills. Students improve critical thinking by responding to literature through writing. Students will engage in at least one fiction and one nonfiction independent book study per quarter. This course is equivalent to an 11 th grade high school English class, and fulfills the requirement for one high school English credit.
