HSV141 — Foundations of Trauma and Trauma Informed Care/Services
Add to HCC Favorites This course will introduce students to core concepts related to trauma through a developmental and multi-cultural lens. The focus of this course will be on examining effects of crises, disasters, and other trauma-causing events. Students will gain a basic understanding of the neurological processes and changes that occur during and after a traumatic event, as well as during the recovery process. Important concepts such as the ACE study, trauma-related symptoms, the impact of trauma on families and communities, the relationship between trauma and addiction, resilience, post-traumatic growth, retraumatization/vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, self-care, and approaching professional work through a trauma-informed lens will be emphasized.
