LAW 203 — Constitutional Law

This course will provide an introduction to the principles of the American constitutional system, its philosophical underpinnings, historical development, and discussion of periods of transformation. Part I of this course will survey the concepts of federalism, separation of powers, executive power, legislative power, federal judicial power, states in the constitutional framework, and the regulation of economic activity. Part II of the course will emphasize the bill of rights including civil rights and liberties, equal protection, due process, property rights, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, fundamental rights and the application of the constitution's fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth amendments to the criminal justice system.
