HIS135 — History of Latin America

This course surveys the broad sweep of Latin American history from the eve of European contact in the fifteenth century through the recent past. Patterns of change overtime, and their notable exceptions, are recurrent themes in the course, including colonialism, independence, nationalism, transculturation, artistic and literary expression, neoliberalism, and the region's contributions to important hemispheric and global developments.
