CHEM249 — Medical Organic Chemistry II
This course is the second term of a two-term medical organic chemistry sequence designed to meet requirements for students interested in a pre-med program. Topics include aromatic compounds and their reactions, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, and an exploration of major bio- organic compounds: amino acids, carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. The laboratory portion of the course involves elaborate synthetic procedures and work on independent projects. At least two semesters of college-level chemistry is recommended.
