HUS 201 — Introduction to Helping Skills

In this course, students will be introduced to fundamental skills, techniques and strategies used in the helping professions. Students will develop and practice the skills needed to assist clients seeking help with personal problems. Methods for evaluating client success and helper effectiveness will be explored. Classic counseling theories will be presented. This course discusses cultural competency and the skills needed to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across diverse cultures.

Prerequisites: HUS 101, HUS 102, HUS 107
