SOC 244 — Social Problems

3 credits · 3 hours

This course applies the sociological perspective as it pertains to social problems at the local, national, and global levels. Objective and subjective aspects of social problems to be covered include, but are not limited to: processes of social problem construction; the role of the media and other social actors; public reactions to social problems; potential solutions for problems. This sociological approach to the study of social problems and solutions reveals the social-structural, rather than the individual, sources of problems in society.
